Injective today is releasing Cascade, the first ever Solana SVM rollup for the IBC ecosystem! The integration will bring the Solana Sealevel Virtual Machine (SVM) into the broader Cosmos world, enabling Solana developers to rapidly deploy their Solana contracts and dApps onto Injective. By doing so, developers can now allow their projects to seamlessly go truly multichain across Solana and IBC.

Cascade helps to unlock the $9 Billion+ Solana developer ecosystem for Injective. The launch was made possible by a culmination of efforts from contributors to Injective and customizable rollup provider Eclipse. Cascade is now live on the Injective testnet with a migration to mainnet planned in the near future.

Builders can visit the official Cascade developer docs to get started on the public testnet here.

What is Solana SVM and Eclipse?

The Solana Sealevel Virtual Machine (SVM) is Solana’s parallel smart contract runtime. The Solana SVM is capable of parallel processing similar to Injective’s core infrastructure. Effectively this allows tens of thousands of transactions to be processed in parallel rather than being restricted to one transaction at a time.

Eclipse is a customizable rollup provider allowing developers to “pick and choose” the best aspects of blockchain technology needed to create unique decentralized applications, without making technical trade-offs.

How does Cascade work?

The Cascade launch consists of a few discrete deployment phases.

The Cascade testnet beta will involve an SVM sequencer operated by the Eclipse team. This sequencer receives transactions from Solana wallets and smart contract deployments from the Solana command-line interface (CLI). Blocks produced by this sequencer are then posted to a data availability layer. Under the hood, contributors to Cascade plan to integrate Celestia to serve as the data availability provider in the future which has the potential to further expand Cascade’s scalability properties.

In essence, the goal is to have the sequencer operate in a permissionless manner with Injective serving as the core settlement layer to ensure that the sequencer is executing transactions correctly.

Injective has already laid a significant amount of groundwork to connect Solana with the interchain ecosystem. Recently, Injective became the only L1 in the Cosmos universe to integrate both Wormhole and Pyth. Now assets, such as SOL, can quickly enter Injective using Wormhole, while asset data originating from Solana can be relayed by the Pyth oracle network. Cascade further expands the potential synergies across Solana, Injective and Cosmos by bringing a familiar Solana developer environment to the world of IBC.

“We continue to be impressed by the pioneering work Injective has done to date around scalability and interoperability,” said Neel Somani, Founder of Eclipse Labs. “The SVM environment will drive a tremendous amount of developer activity and we are excited to bring it into the Cosmos ecosystem for the first time alongside Injective”.

Despite the current market environment, active teams developing within the Solana framework grew 1000% in 2022 according to reports by Alchemy. Developers who are familiar with Solana tooling and language can now easily write and deploy their applications to the Cosmos ecosystem through Cascade without needing to learn new programming languages or tooling.

Cascade: Pioneering a Hyper Scalable Web3 Stack with Injective

Moving forward, Cascade will continue to implement the latest technical breakthroughs, reaching even higher levels of security and scalability. The current working plan is to integrate the interchain security (ICS) model in order to secure Cascade alongside new VM rollups deployed by Injective. This would allow Cascade to borrow shared security from the entire Cosmos ecosystem. New security parameters coupled with a modular data availability layer such as Celestia would afford Cascade with an unprecedented upper bound of scalability.

“Injective is continuing to build the most dynamic ecosystem for Web3 finance,” said Eric Chen, co-founder and CEO of Injective Labs. “Cascade will not only empower developers from Solana to deploy their dApps on Injective, but it will also create more opportunities for users to experience the best Web3 applications in one integrated network.”

The Cascade launch marks the start of a new age of interoperable Web3 infrastructure underscored by hyper scalability. This new integration will not only attract a new audience to the Solana SVM, but will also enable Cosmos users to utilize popular Solana dApps deployed on Injective, resulting in increased Web3 adoption across the board.
